As a collector, my association with the Thing, taking the Thing away and keeping it out of context. By doing this, changing my thoughts on the new place with the addition of the Thing.

I've not been familiar with Avery's work before, and was completely entranced by this sculpture, the accompanying piece of writing, and his other work at BAS7, a drawing on tracing paper. His imaginative and continuous exploration and demonstration of an imagined unnamed island is completely fantastical and escapist, and therefore very appealing to me. In his work I see an alternate reality created within his own world, not outside of. The stories he tells expand the picture you have of this Island and the characters and creatures that inhabit it, as well as becoming more familiar with the narrator, Only McFew.

This piece is found upstairs in the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, and has by far been my highlight of the entire show so far.
